“I had a grandfather who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. For most of the time I knew him, during my young life and adult life, until he passed in 2004, he had the disease. Seeing that and how it affected my family— my grandmother, my father, my aunts and uncles— really inspired me.”

- Lewy body formation and maintenance in our cell model of Parkinson’s disease; to understand how and why Lewy bodies are formed in Parkinson’s disease, and hopefully determine if this process is a viable therapeutic target
- Cellular degradation process autophagy, which is believed to play an important role in in Lewy body formation
- Employs live confocal imaging, immunocytochemistry, electron microscopy, western blotting and PCR
